Just a few thoughts…

Today I’m in the mood to just throw some things out there and sort of get ’em off my chest. In no particular order….here we go.

As of late I’m getting tired of having to beep at people more and more because I realize they are fucking texting at a traffic light or texting while driving etc. I just want to get a full size 1/2 Ton pickup with 3″ steel pipes welded onto the front for a huge push/brush bar and just mash into these fuckers when they do this. Fucking drive bitches! The road is not there for you to text on. If you must text, pull the fuck over and park or stop in the berm.

Next up is the fact that I’m very thankful. I try very hard to look at most things in a good light. I find good in almost everything. Tell me something bad or whine about something and I can find good in it for you.

I’m thankful for my job. It’s a job that most people would love to have, and I LOVE doing it. I get to do my hobby for a job and I am very passionate about it. Most people can’t say that. That’s a shame. I’m thankful that I have a pair of very comfortable shoes that I wore to work today. They don’t hurt, they feel great. As if that’s not enough, I have about five pairs of shoes that are nice looking, comfy, and will last a long time.

I think too many people go through life not realizing what they have and how valuable it already is. They always want more. I’m somewhat the same. I could go and just buy buy buy some days if my wife didn’t keep my butt in check. 🙂 My point is sometimes ya need to slow down and enjoy what you have. Seriously. Not even kidding.

To pull a quote from a favorite movie….. “The things you own…end up owning you”. ~Fight Club

Well today I had my first dental crown. My dentist kicks ass. No pain at all. Got a temporary crown on and will go back in three weeks to get my gold crown. Yep, I’m going with Gold because I’m a “grinder”; a bruxist I tell ya. Meaning that I grind my teeth at night and gold will not chip or break off due to grinding like porcelain or acrylic do.

And lastly….fake boobies taste funny. Keep ’em real.

Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager prompting for credentials

If you’re here you’re probably encountering the same thing I did. You’re using SCCM (SMS) to remote control client computers in your organization and for whatever reason you’re now being prompted for credentials when you start remote tools. I searched high and low trying to figure this out and encountered a good many websites and blogs that were somewhat helpful but none that had the “right answer”. Chances are, if you’re being prompted for credentials when starting remote tools, you have an expired Configuration Manager certificate issued from the CA (Certificate Authority) on your domain.

By the time I figured this out the certificate on our domain had expired 170+ days earlier. It simply had become a huge pain in the butt, and we had more clients that we couldn’t connect to than clients that we could! It was annoying as hell. I decided since I found so much information on other blogs, that I would put the solution in my blog. My boss originally saw that we were having SMS_POLICY_PROVIDER errors that were showing up in the Site Status portion of the console. He asked me to research this and fix it.

After some searching on Google I found that I probably needed to renew my site certificate. Problem was, I couldn’t because it was expired. I had to install a new certificate. I had to go to START / RUN / and type ‘mmc.exe’ and then go to add/remove snap-ins and select the ‘certificate’ one. You need to request a new certificate logged into your SCCM server. Then you need to go to the Root CA and approve the certificate. After this happens your certificate will be placed in your ‘personal certificates’ folder. You need to export that certificate and then import it into the ‘computer certificates’ folder. To do this you have to make the private key exportable. So you need to ‘check the box that allows you to export the key’ on the certificate before you export it on your SCCM server. If you do not do this you will not be able to export the certificate with the private key.

I hope this helps some because it was a huge pain in the butt for me.

Things that make you warm and comfy

As I sit in my very comfortable and cozy home I realize how blessed I am. I am very thankful to God for all that He has provided me.

I started to think about different things that just take me back to my childhood or things that make you just feel ‘at home’ or ‘comfy’.

First off, all these memories or ‘things’ will come from a time where cell phones never existed. To me you cannot be comfy in a house where a cell phone is ringing. This probably stems from me having to be on-call where I work.

I think of how nice it is to be home on a chilly afternoon, sitting on the couch or chair, with my feet upon the ottoman (I call it a hassock but most people are like “WTF?”) watching a baseball game on TV and eating some peanuts. I think of being at my grandparents house and reading a book on the living room floor while my grandmother would be quilting or knitting. My grandfather would be reading the news paper with a toothpick in his mouth.

Today I sit here on the ‘love seat’ in the living room with my laptop typing this. My wife is at the store picking up some groceries and my daughter is sitting in the chair across from me coloring and watching ‘The Flintstones’ off and on. I’m sipping on a cup of Chock full o’Nuts coffee. It’s 2:30pm but it is about 43 degrees outside and very windy, so it’s nice to be inside and cozy.

I like sitting here in the living room during the fall and winter with a sweater on, a pair of jeans, and the fireplace roaring. We have a large wood burning fireplace that is right in the living room. Our cats love lying in front of the fireplace and warming their bodies while the fire is burning. Fire is amazing and there is nothing in the world like a good fire (outside or inside) to make you warm and cozy.

It is also very nice to lie across the bed with some peace and quiet and read a book or page through a magazine. For me, Popular Mechanics or Consumer Reports are a good start.

Add a slice of apple pie or pecan pie and we’re all set. 😉
