Whining goofballs with no skills…

I’m tired of people whining about their job as technology gets better and better.

Mainly I’m speaking of the following story.

http://www.newsnet5.com/employment/10166113/detail.html

Whine, whine, whine, what fools.

What they don’t realize is that millions of people like me are tired of the postal bull.  I’m tired of having to pay extra money for “insurance” when I send something priority mail to make sure it gets there.  Isn’t that what I’m paying for in the first place?  I’m not paying them to look at it and take pictures.  I’m paying them to deliver it from where I give it to them to the place listed on the front of the package.

I have used automated postal centers for about 50% of my packages.  The ones I send via the Automated Postal Centers always get there.  Some of the other ones that I handed to a real person get lost.

I feel the same way about toll booth workers.  They complain about needing more pay and not getting jobs cut etc.  Do they think that in this world of computerized automation that I need to hand them change?  Come on.  Wake up.  I can drive through a booth and scan my card faster and better than I can give a person change and wait for change back or whatever.  Plus, if there are no real people at the toll booth then I don’t have to wait behind idiots that ask directions to the person in the toll booth.  For crying out loud, just freaking move so other people can pay their toll and get on with life.  Buy a map, ask someone else.  Don’t take up other peoples time when they are in line just to pay a stinking toll.

People who are being replaced by machines or computers or whatever need to quit whining.  They have it pretty easy in my eyes.  It would seem that just about anyone with a high school education could stand in a toll booth or carry mail, or sort mail, or whatever.  Since they are state and federal jobs they have good benefits and are hard to get fired from.  These people should stop complaining and do something about what is happening.

Learn about computers, retrain yourself, find another job, just stop complaining.  You have no ground to stand on.

Smoking vs. Non-Smoking

Today I walked into a Damon’s restaurant with my wife and little girl. We were going to go in and have a nice lunch. As we were seated in the “non-smoking” area I noticed that we could smell smoke like mad. It was worse than the smoke wall we were greeted by when we walked into the restaurant.

The hostess said that there was only smoking at the bar. I looked at the bar and noticed that there were only about 5 guys sitting at the bar. After sitting there for about 3-4 minutes I realized the smoke was so strong that my clothes were going to smell like smoke when we left and that my daughter would have to be breathing this crap the entire time we were there.

We picked up our stuff and left before our server even came over to get us drinks. We were asked at the front door why we were leaving and I said “it smells too smokey in here”. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has walked out or decided to just go somewhere else due to the “smoking” section.

I have talked to managers of restaurants like TGI Fridays and Texas Roadhouse that are entire non smoking restaurants. They say that they have more customers since they made the entire place non-smoking.  I’m glad Damon’s continues to have a smoking section for the 5 idiots that are at the bar so that 20 people decide to go some place else.

It reminds me of the commercial that says….

“Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a pool.” It just doesn’t work. It all runs together.

My father-in-law and WWII.

My father in law was a POW for 23 months in Germany during WWII. He’s still alive and 85 years old. I’m starting to become very interested in this and his stories. I am kind of wanting to spend a day a week with him listening and talking to him about his time as a POW, and just generally his time during WWII. There are not many guys from WWII left. Those guys are just a different class of men all together. Great men. I don’t want to throw the opportunity away as I have this wonderful man who likes to talk about his time during WWII.

Stay tuned for more on this.

Gas prices

It’s interesting that the closer we get to the November election time the lower the gas prices go.  This is not funny.  I enjoy the low prices but it should stay like that all the time, not just when crooked politicians want to get elected.  I guarantee you the prices go back up in December.

This whole gas price thing is a load of crap.  They are making so much profit it’s horrible.  I can’t wait for the day that we don’t have to use oil to power cars anymore.

I hate big corporate business.  I hate oil companies.  I hate politicians (for the most part).

Google assimilates YouTube!

Since Google just bought YouTube today for 1.6 billion dollars in stock, I think this should be their new logo.

Do not resist Google!

It’s getting really hard to resist Google.

Paying for a Beta? Come on…

So I get an email from Microsoft to try the latest Office 2007 Beta release.  I’m thinking this would be something cool so I go ahead and click the link and start filling out my information.  Most of it is already there due to me signing up with my Microsoft Passport (the mark of the beast).  After spending about 3 minutes filling stuff out I click on “Continue” only to realize that they (Microsoft) wants me to enter a credit card number. What the heck?  So I look closely and they want me to pay $1.50 to download the latest Beta.  They are on crack.

There is no way in hell that I’m going to pay to test software for them.  They have enough money as it is.  Stunts like this are what will continue to make me push open source software and move away from anything Microsoft based.

Right now I have 3 PC’s in my house.  My next computer will be a Mac.  The left over PC’s will be loaded with Linux and I will not look back.  Since I’m an IT guy I have to use Windows at work and most of the servers are Microsoft based so I can’t do anything about that.  I will not buy anything else Microsoft based from this point forward.  In about a year I will buy a new computer and it will be a Mac and I will fly my finger in the face of Microsoft.

Get a clue Microsoft.  You actually think I’m going to pay you so I can test your software for you?  You’re obviously being run by crack smoking stumblebums.
