Microsoft and all their dumbness

As of late I’ve noticed that Microsoft is becoming a joke. They are naming everything “Windows Live” something-or-other. Today I saw the longest name ever from Microsoft and I couldn’t help but think, why?

( Windows Live OneCare Family Safety )

Why in the world do you need to name something so dang long? Whatever happened to just “Microsoft Word”? Now it’s “Microsoft Office Word 2007″. What used to be “Hotmail” is now “Windows Live Mail”. It’s retarded.

Beyond all that crazyness I also recently read that the new Windows Vista will be coming out soon (maybe January) and they want you to pay between $200 and $400 to buy it, depending on which version you need. They must be smoking crack. Windows Vista, other than looking prettier, offers nothing more to the end user. They tout all this extra garbage but none of it is worth paying to get Vista. Then what, you have to upgrade your current system or buy a new one so you can run it? Yeah right.

Microsoft has obviously gotten so huge that they have a skewed view of what life as an “average joe” is like.

Whenever we get to purchase a new PC, it will not be a “PC”. We will buy an Apple PowerMac. With “BootCamp” I can run Windows on my Mac if needed. Apple is doing all the right things and Microsoft is doing all the wrong things. This probably sounds strange coming from a guy who works in I.T. and has for the last 10 years. I’ve all but given up on Microsoft. I’m sure after we get an Apple we will not look back. What’s funny is that it’s Microsoft that’s selling me on a new Mac.

Get a clue Redmond, people don’t like you anymore. You’re over complicating things and are too greedy. Drop the price of Windows and less people will pirate it.

Ghostride the whip = village idiot

I saw a couple of videos on YouTube and I had to just laugh.  I guess the newest thing for the local village idiots is to get out of their car while it’s moving (at a slow speed) and dance around like a lummox.  It’s kind of funny but it seems to have become a form of natural selection.  Some idiots are getting hurt quite bad doing these things.  I did some stupid stuff as a young man and as a kid but never anything like these goobers are doing.

I also don’t get the “whip” part.  When I was a kid ghostriding was what you did to your bicycle by jumping off while it was moving.  Who in the world decided they would call it “ghostride the whip”?  Talk about a dumb name for something?

At least one thing is good, the idiots will be removed from society via natural selection so they cannot breed anymore.

War-Driving to work

So today I got the idea that I’d throw my laptop in my passenger seat and run NetStumbler (available at www.netstumbler.com) and see how many wide open wireless access points I find. Well I have about a 45 minute drive to work and I only ran NetStumbler for about 30 minutes. I found 136 wireless access points and about 60 of them were wide open and unsecured. It amazes me daily how many people implement technology that they have no idea how to use or configure. Everyone just thinks they can throw stuff in and use it.

I bet I could almost make a living driving around and telling people that they need to secure their wireless access points and then telling (or showing) them how to do it.

I used to like computer stuff a lot more when it was left to geeks. Now that everybody and their brother uses computers it’s made things worse. However if you want to really break it down…..I only have a job because there are idiots that don’t know how to use computers.

China killing dogs and cats for their fur

Today I came across a horrible video over at Google video.  I was simply looking at some of the top videos.  The video was getting a good rating because people are upset about it happening and want to get air time.  It was a video about how China is killing dogs and cats for their fur.  It showed how cats and dogs are crammed into small cages and then transported to where they will be killed and then skinned.  The cages are then thrown off of the top of the truck onto the ground where often the animals legs are broken upon impact.  They are cramming like 30 cats into a cage that is maybe 4 feet wide, 2 feet tall and 3 feet long.  The video really pissed me off.

Please try as hard as you can to not buy stuff from China.  I guess J. Crew sells clothing that have cat and dog fur in or on them.

I’m just so tired of all the junk that goes on in China and the lack of morals.  They don’t value human life like we do.

I will do my best to not buy anything made in China and if I find something that I currently possess that is made in China I will throw it away.

Killing any animal for their fur is just wrong in the first place.

The crappy turnpike

Usually the turnpike is a really good drive and it’s easy. The last couple days it has been total garbage. It’s obvious that the Turnpike Commission fired some folks because now there are less toll gates open to pay. This, in turn, backs up traffic seriously in the right lane of the turnpike that I exit at daily. What’s even more fun is that you can’t see that it’s backed up until you get right up on the exit because you just come over a hill and there’s the exit.

Today and yesterday both I’m driving along and see people locking up their brakes and tractor trailers jamming on their brakes and having to go on to the shoulder or on to the birm just so they don’t hit cars. I can’t believe that they let crap like this happen. It’s a joke. What’s even better is that if this continues I will simply not take the turnpike anymore and take a different road. Yeah, it may take 10 minutes longer but I can deal with that. I just hate being stopped in traffic backed up 1/4 of a mile or more. It’s just stupid.

Then, like me, less people will take the turnpike and it will get less busy and generate less money because less people are paying tolls. What fun….I guess.

Oh well, things could be worse. I could be poor, or living in a third world country, or in a war. I’m sure there are people that would pay to be in my traffic jam.

Just had to rant a bit. ;)
